Georgian squares, the Book of Kells and a friendly pub culture.
Dublin is a short hop from Britain and easy to explore on foot. Trinity College, founded in 1592, holds the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript made around 1,200 years ago.
Georgian squares such as Merrion Square and St Stephen's Green lie just south of the centre, and the Guinness Storehouse and the Jameson distillery tell the story of the city's best known drinks. Kilmainham Gaol is a moving visit for anyone interested in Irish history.
In the evening, Temple Bar is lively, though many visitors prefer the quieter traditional pubs nearby. The cliff walk at Howth makes an easy trip by DART train.
