The largest Balearic island, with sheltered coves, mountain villages and Palma's old town.
Majorca is the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands and has something for most travellers, from family resorts in Alcúdia to quiet coves and walking in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Palma, the capital, has a Gothic cathedral, La Seu, overlooking the bay, and an old town of narrow streets and courtyards. A vintage wooden train runs from Palma through the mountains to Sóller, where a tram takes you down to the port.
Inland, villages such as Valldemossa and Deià are known for their stone houses and views.
